How does one face death? Death is the end of life and is inevitable for everyone. It can be a beautiful experience, if you have lived it well and are ready to accept it. If not, it can be a terrifying experience. But if you have accepted death as a natural process of life, you will know how to gracefully accept it when it comes and will not fear death.
According to the Bhagavadgita, the ultimate reality of this world is the existence of God. The soul (atman) is an integral part of God. It represents the pure consciousness that pervades all things in this world. The soul is eternal and unchanging and always exists in its actual state. When we die, we leave behind our physical bodies but our souls continue to exist in their true form.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji was the first Guru of Sikhism. He taught the concept of “Shabad” or “Word” which means “the eternal truth emanating from God.” This word became a mantra for Sikhs, who believe that it represents all knowledge that has ever existed in this world.

I was born in Varanasi – one of oldest city on the planet, which celebrates death as the process and crescendo of life. I have always been interested in photographing pyre in my student life as I was living very close to famous Manikarnika Ghat on the bank of Ganga river. But till this date I have not witnessed death. No one left his her body in my presence. Though I have always been eager to witness that moment. Many years ago, I came across the book – ‘Tibetan book of living and dieing by Sogyal Rinpoche . I liked the preface of the book but unable to read further (25 years ago).
Then came Osho’s book – Main Mrityu sikhaata hoon in Hindi language ( I teach death).
Now I am reading Sadhguru’s book – DEATH.
I must tell you here that like millions of people on the planet- I am also a Isha Yoga practitioner since last 5 years. Completed all his courses.
So in this review I have to share the following-
* Sex and Death are the two taboos of the human race. and both are the natural.
* We have read many books on Sex – now is the time to read one book on death too!
* If you are and Isha Yoga practitioner – this book may reveal and explain many things about your daily practices.
* If you are not yet a yoga practitioner- this will explain – why it is good to invest some time with your body and mind to have a peaceful death than leaving your body in a hospital.
The book is very simple. As simple as Sadhguru’s wit-full explanations you might have listened on youtube.
The book also talks about – how one can help other people in the process of leaving the body.
Essential read indeed!
My favorite quote from the book-
‘ When you left your body here and went to heaven. Without your body, what are you going to do with good food and virgins? ‘
Death is a taboo in most societies in the world. But what if we have got this completely wrong? What if death was not the catastrophe it is made out to be but an essential aspect of life, rife with spiritual possibilities for transcendence? For the first time, someone is saying just that.
In this unique treatise-like exposition, Sadhguru dwells extensively upon his inner experience as he expounds on the more profound aspects of death that are rarely spoken about. From a practical standpoint, he elaborates on what preparations one can make for one’s death, how best we can assist someone who is dying and how we can continue to support their journey even after death.
